Saul Canelo Alvarez has finalised a deal to face unbeaten Edgar Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena on September 14, the same night as Noche UFC's enormous Las Vegas sphere card.
Canelo Alvarez, boxing's number one attraction and one of the best pound-for-pound fighters, will defend his unified super middleweight title against Edgar Berlanga. Alvarez is currently the undisputed super middleweight champion. Canelo will be stripped of the IBF title before the fight for not facing IBF mandatory contender William Scull.
The fight is a renewal of the fierce and longstanding Mexician-Puerto Rican boxing rivalry and will headline a PBC on Amazon Prime video pay-per-view and DAZN PPV, a streaming platform of Berlanga’s promoter Matchroom boxing.
Berlanga, 27, is Puerto Rican, born in New York with a record of (22-0 17KOs). He most recently defeated Padraig McCrory by sixth-round TKO in February.
Alvarez, a future hall of famer, is (61-2-2 39 KOs). Alvarez is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jaime Munguia in May. The only losses on his record came to Floyd Mayweather Jr and WBA light heavyweight champion Dimitry Bivol in May 2022.
In the co-main event, Erislandy Lara (36-3-3 18 KOs) will defend his middleweight title against former two-division titleholder Danny Garcia (37-3 21 KOs).
