Carl Froch knows plenty about Chris Eubank Jr after sparring the Brighton man when he was climbing the rankings.
The former world champion was established as a leading force in boxing when he would share training rounds with the rising star and he was able to see firsthand what he was capable of.
11 years after retiring from boxing, Froch is now one of the sport’s most outspoken figures and he’s recently had his say on his former gym rival.
On April 26, at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London, Eubank Jr will step into the ring with Conor Benn for one of the biggest fights in his career and undoubtedly the grandest night in British boxing so far this year.
Eubank Jr has already faced many high-profile names such as James DeGale, Billy Joe Saunders, Liam Smith, and George Groves, but this bout has taken on extra significance due to the rivalry endured by their fathers, Chris Sr and Nigel Benn, in a previous generation.
The pair were due to get it on back in 2022 but an adverse finding in Benn’s drug test, later blamed on the possibility of contaminated eggs, caused the fight to be postponed at the last minute.
At a press event to push the show earlier this year, Eubank Jr shocked those in attendance when he slapped Benn with an egg causing a huge clash which forced security to intervene.
Froch, like the majority of the boxing industry, has had his say on the fight and he believes it will be Eubank Jr who will get the job done.
“I just think that all the variables, who’s done what, who’s the bigger, stronger man, who’s got the experience at world level, you have to say Chris Eubank Jr,” said ‘The Cobra’ when speaking on Froch on Fighting.
“He’s performed at a better level and even at a higher weight he belongs at world-level status where Conor Benn has done nothing.
“Yes, he banged out Chris Algieri, a former champ, and looked good doing it, but it was a way past his best Chris Algieri. If I’m gonna pick who is my immediate favourite for this fight, I’m gonna pick Chris Eubank Jr.”
