Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez unified the cruiserweight division against Chris Billam-Smith in the main event of the Golden Boy's Riyadh season "Latino Night" at the Venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Ramirez dominated Billam-Smith in a highly entertaining but mostly one-sided fight on route to a unanimous decision to win the WBO belt to go along with the WBA belt won on April 30th against Arsen Goulamirian in his third fight in the division, having previously won the super middleweight world title in 2016.
Ramirez won 116-112,116-112, and 116-113 as he punished Billam-Smith, who was making his third defence of his WBO title.
Ramirez's timing and footwork proved decisive as he beat Billam-smith to the punch, quickly finding his target throughout the fight. Billam-Smith never stopped trying to come forward in the fight but could not close the gap on the scorecards by Ramirez's early domination.
In the aftermath, Ramirez confirmed he hoped to unify in the cruiserweight division against IBF and Ring magazine champion Jai Opetaia.
For many years, Arnold Barboza Jr wanted to fight former unified titlist Jose Ramirez. He finally got his wish and made the most of it in a close but clear unanimous decision victory.
The fight was forgettable, with little action to note, but Barboza won 97-93, 96-94 and 96-94, which was the victory of his 11-year career.
William Zepeda Defeated Tevin Farmer by a split decision in a gruelling fight. The judges scored the fight 95-94, 95-94 for Farmer and 95-94 in favour of Zepeda. Earning him an interim WBC lightweight title and mandatory challenger for WBC champion P4P three-weight superstar Shakur Stevenson.
Farmer, the former IBF super featherweight champion, hurt Zepeda in round four with a big left hand dropping him to the canvas. However, Zepeda did enough to win a very close contest, giving him the biggest of his career.
