The guilty and the innocent in all sports deserve a fair hearing. Imane Khelif has not had a fair hearing at the Olympics in Paris.

Boxer Imane Khelif will fight for an Olympic gold medal tonight after putting aside the gender row surrounding her eligibility throughout the 2024 Olympics.

Imane Khelif staked a place in boxing history by gaining the chance to win an Olympic gold medal. The 25-year-old has been at the centre of the biggest talking points throughout the tournament.

The Algerian welterweight, Khelif has overcome huge public pressure, not at least from the discredited International Boxing Association. The IBA banned her from competing from last year’s World championships. After reportedly having failed gender eligibility tests. Khelif has now made it to the final after beating Janjaem Suwannapheng from Thailand.

Khelif’s Olympic schedule began bringing worldwide media attention with a win against Angela Carini in a fight that lasted just 46 seconds, before the Italian abandoned the bout saying she “had to preserve” her life.

What ever happens after the Woman's 66KG final, the row will continue long after the Paris 2024 Olympic finals are over.
